Can a Woman Lead the Eid Prayer for Other Women?
Question to Shaykh Ibn Baaz:
In previous years, the women of our villages gathered and performed the two ʿEid prayers in the most complete manner, with a knowledgeable woman leading them—praise be to Allah. The reason for their gathering is that the ʿEid prayer location for the men is far, about a two-hour walk on foot, and the men do not allow them to attend. What is the ruling on what those women did? Is it considered an innovation (bidʿah)?
Shaykh Ibn Baaz Answer:
I do not know of any harm in that, because the ʿEid prayer is legislated for both men and women. The Sunnah is to go out to the open area for it. If it is not possible for the women to go out and pray with the men, then there is no harm in them praying in their homes—either individually or in congregation. They will have great reward in doing so.¹
