Discipline Today, Comfort Tomorrow
Ibn ʿAbdil-Barr رحمه الله said:
“Whoever disciplines his child whilst he is young, he will be the comfort of his eye when he is old.”
[Bahjatul Majālis, p. 88]
How many parents cry in silence today because they neglected to discipline early?
How many mothers feel heartbreak in old age… not because their children died — but because their children disobeyed, abandoned, or dishonoured them?
Raising a child isn't about just feeding and clothing. It’s about building a soul, training a heart, and instilling values that live long after you're gone.
Discipline — with love and wisdom — is not harshness. It's rahmah. It's mercy in disguise. And it’s your child’s greatest need, even if he resents it today.
If you want a child who will be your strength in your old age…
Who will make duʿāʾ for you after your death…
Who will raise righteous grandchildren for you…
Then start with discipline from now.
Because a child left to himself becomes a grief to his parents. And in our deen, Tarbiya is a trust from Allah.
Discipline him now, so he becomes your comfort later.
Teach them Qur’ān.
Teach them ṣalāh.
Teach them ḥayāʾ.
Teach them the Sunnah.
Teach them to obey you with love.
And you’ll have planted a garden that will bloom for generations to come.
