Ruling on Praying Behind the Shia in Their Mosques
Question to Shaykh Ibn Baaz:
Last year I traveled to al-Aḥsā’, and at the time of Maghrib prayer, I entered a mosque to pray. After I prayed with the congregation and finished, they stood up to pray ʿIshā’. I prayed with them (ʿIshā’) because I did not know anything (about them). When I exited the mosque and asked (about them), I was told that their madhhab is Shīʿah. Does any sin fall upon me or not? Please advise me—may Allah reward you.
Shaykh Ibn Baaz Answer:
You must repeat the ʿIshā’ prayer because you prayed it before its (actual) time, so you must make it up. And do not return to praying with them—because there is serious corruption in their ʿaqīdah (belief). The Shīʿah, for the most part, are extreme in their veneration of Ahl al-Bayt. They are divided into many sects and groups. But as for this ʿIshā’ prayer that you performed with them, you must repeat it because you prayed it before its time. It is from their common practice to combine between Ẓuhr and ʿAṣr, and between Maghrib and ʿIshā’, except for those among them whom Allah wills.
