The Boundaries of Quranic Interpretation: Following the Prophet (peace be upon him) and His Companions
No one among the people is allowed to interpret the Book of Allah in a way that contradicts how it was interpreted by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or how it was interpreted by his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), or what the Muslims have unanimously agreed upon. This is because the Messenger ﷺ was the most knowledgeable of all people regarding the interpretation of the Book of Allah, and the most sincere in advising for the sake of Allah and His servants. Likewise, his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were the most knowledgeable of all people after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in interpreting the Book of Allah, just as they were the most knowledgeable of his Sunnah, and the most sincere to the people after the Prophets.”
(Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā by al-Shuwayʿir 1/121)
