The Clear Difference Between Ahl-us-Sunnah and the Shia
Question to Shaykh Ibn Baaz:
What is the difference between Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah and the Shīʿah?
Shaykh Ibn Baaz Answer:
There is a difference between them. Allah did not make people equal:
“Are those who do good deeds equal to those who commit evil? Are the righteous equal to the wicked?”
There must be distinction between disbelievers and Muslims, and between the Shīʿah and others.
The Shīʿah are innovators (mubtadiʿah), and they are of many types:
Among them are the Rāfiḍah, the Nuṣayriyyah (ʿAlawites), the Ismāʿīliyyah, and other groups. They are of various levels and categories.
Among them are those who worship the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet’s family), call upon them besides Allah, and seek help from them — like the Rāfiḍah, the Nuṣayriyyah, and those similar to them.
These are disbelievers (kuffār). We ask Allah for safety and well-being.
