The Crying of the Sinners vs. the Arrogance of the “Pious”
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
“The crying of the sinners is more loved to Allāh than the tasbeeh of the arrogant.”
Madārij al-Sālikeen 1/177–178
This one statement exposes the hollow core of Khawārijism.
Because the Khawārij don’t cry over their sins — they look down on others and call them kuffār.
They don’t humble themselves — they exalt themselves with their fasting, prayer, and Qur’an recitation.
But the Prophet Muḥammad (peace be upon him) described them:
“They will recite the Qur’an but it will not go beyond their throats…” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
“They are the dogs of Hell.” (Ibn Mājah)
Their outward worship didn’t benefit them — because they were arrogant, harsh, and quick to judge others, even the Companions.
Meanwhile, the sinner who humbles himself, weeps, and begs Allah for forgiveness is beloved to the Lord of Mercy.
This is Salafiyyah:
Worship with humility.
Hold the truth with gentleness.
Fear for yourself more than you criticize others.
And never forget: Arrogance — even in the name of piety — is a path to destruction.
