The Endless Trap of Desires
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
"Those addicted to desires end up in a situation where they get no pleasure from them, yet are unable to refrain from them."
(Rawdat al-Muhibbeen, Pg. 470)
SubḥānAllāh... how true this is!
When a heart becomes enslaved to endless cravings — whether it's for wealth, fame, lust, attention, or worldly thrills — it begins to rot from within. What once gave fleeting joy becomes an unbearable prison. The sweetness fades. The addiction remains.
They chase after more, but feel even emptier.
They fall again and again, but find no real satisfaction.
They know it destroys them, but feel powerless to stop.
This is the punishment of the soul that obeys its desires over its Lord. A life of constant hunger, yet no nourishment.
True freedom, true peace, and true sweetness of life lies only in submission to Allah. It is obedience, not disobedience, that brings real pleasure. It is patience, not indulgence, that strengthens and heals the heart.
O Allah, free our hearts from being slaves to desires! Grant us the strength to fight our nafs, and let us taste the true sweetness of faith.
A soul that lowers itself to its desires can never rise to the heights of Paradise.
Rise above. You were created for something greater.
