The Prophet ﷺ Named Groups & Warned Against Them — So Should We

Today they say:

“Don’t name names!”

“Just focus on unity!”

“Calling out groups causes division!”

But what did the Prophet ﷺ do?

He didn’t stay silent.

He didn’t generalize.

He named names — to protect the Ummah from destruction.

He named the Khawārij and said:

“They will exit the religion just as the arrow exits the prey.”
(Muslim, 1066)

He warned of the Rawāfiḍ who would curse the Companions and reject the Caliphate.

He foretold of the Murji’ah, the Qadariyyah, and sects splitting into 73 groups.

He said:

“My Ummah will split into seventy-three sects, all of them in the Fire except one.”
They asked: “Who is it, O Messenger of Allah?”
He said:
“That which is upon what I and my Companions are upon today.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhī, 2641 – ḥasan)

So if the Prophet ﷺ named and warned, why are we silent?

Are we more “wise” than the Messenger?

Are we more “merciful” than him?

Or are we just too afraid of backlash and emotions?

Remaining silent when the truth is being twisted — is betrayal.

Hiding the names of deviant groups — is deception.

Real love for the Ummah is to warn them from paths that lead to the Fire.

Refuting the people of falsehood is more virtuous than commanding good and forbidding evil.

So we name:

— The Ikhwān, for politicizing the dīn

— The Tableeghis, for innovated da’wah

— The Ashʿarīs, for distorting Allah’s Names and Attributes

— The Rawāfiḍ, for cursing the Sahābah

— The Khawārij, for bloodshed in the name of Islām

Not out of hatred — but out of loyalty to the truth.
