The Ruling on Planting Trees or Stalks on Graves — A Refutation of a Common Innovation
Question to Shaykh Ibn Baaz:
The questioner asks in his third question: Is it permissible to plant trees on graves?
Shaykh Ibn Baaz Answer:
It is not appropriate; there is no basis for it. The Prophet ﷺ placed a palm stalk on two graves of people who were being punished. But as for us, we do not know who is being punished [in their graves], so nothing should be placed—neither palm stalks nor anything else. It is not legislated; rather, it is an innovation. Yes.
