The Urgent Need to Preserve Families: A Call to Morals, Marriage, and Meaningful Action
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family, companions, and those who follow his guidance. To proceed:
We have all listened to this blessed seminar in which the noble speakers — Dr. Muhammad Lutf al-Ṣabbāgh, Shaykh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbdullāh al-Durwīsh, and Dr. ʿAbdullāh ibn Saʿd al-Rashīd — spoke about the family, its care from the perspective of morals, its development, and the protection of it from harm and corruption.
The noble scholars have done well, benefitted the audience, and clarified what needed to be clarified. This seminar, by the grace of Allah, was a blessed gathering that fulfilled its purpose. The esteemed speakers excelled in conveying the facts, calling towards goodness, and warning against the causes of family breakdown, division, and loss.
They also did well in clarifying the means that can lead to family righteousness, growth, and stability — such as facilitating the means of marriage, and identifying the harmful obstacles that should be avoided and warned against — especially by influential and prominent individuals who are taken as examples. May Allah reward them with goodness, multiply their rewards, and increase us and them in knowledge, guidance, and success.
Indeed, they have spoken well, called to goodness, and conveyed what must be conveyed. I support what they have said and thank them for these valuable pieces of advice and this good and blessed seminar. I ask Allah to benefit all of us through it, and to benefit those who hear it and those who it may reach.
I advise my brothers who are listening to spread the good they heard. For the Prophet (peace be upon him) would often say in his sermons:
“Let the one who is present convey to the one who is absent, for it may be that one who is informed may comprehend it better than the one who heard it directly.”
So you, my brother, should rejoice in spreading benefit to those who may benefit from it — whether from this seminar or others like it. When you hear something good, convey it and spread it among the people in your community, and to other groups you might encounter and be present among.
Especially when certain topics come up in conversation — as speech often leads from one thing to another, and words remind one another. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Convey from me, even if it be one verse.”
And he said:
“May Allah brighten the face of the one who hears my words, understands them, and then conveys them just as he heard them.”
You are a Muslim who loves goodness for his brothers — so convey! But let your conveying be in both speech and action, for speech alone is not enough. Convey through your words and your deeds in your surroundings, until your words and actions reach your brothers and those around you.
Calling to Allah is through speech and action.
Sometimes, actions have more impact on some people, are more effective, and more beneficial.
How many people speak but are not listened to?
How many speak but their words are not understood?
But when speech is joined with action, the benefit is greater.
The Prophet (peace be upon him), his noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and their righteous followers used to convey goodness through both their words and their deeds. Their speech was noble, and their actions were righteous — they were role models to be followed.
Allah said:
“And indeed, you are upon an exalted standard of character.”
(Qur’an 68:4)
The Prophet’s character was the Qur’an. He (peace be upon him) implemented its commands, stayed away from its prohibitions, and called the people to the knowledge and deeds it contains. He guided them to the means of salvation and encouraged them toward the causes of goodness.
And Allah said about him:
“Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a beautiful example.”
(Qur’an 33:21)
Thus, his followers and the callers to his religion must be like that — upon noble character, callers to truth through their speech, their example, and their actions — wherever they may be.
