When Worship Is Detached from the Sunnah: A Khariji Trap

They prayed more than you.

They fasted more than you.

They recited Qur’an beautifully — day and night.

But the Prophet ﷺ still said about them:

“They will recite the Qur’an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will exit the religion like an arrow passes through the prey.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim]

These were the Khawārij

Outwardly pious, inwardly corrupt.

What went wrong?

They worshipped Allah

but without the Sunnah.

They had rituals — but no guidance.

Emotion — but no understanding.

They loved Islām — but hated its scholars and rulers.

Worship without Sunnah is not a sign of righteousness — it’s a path to destruction.

You can cry in prayer and still be upon misguidance.

You can fast all day and still fall into extremism.

You can quote Qur’an and still be from the dogs of Hellfire — if you twist it to justify takfīr, rebellion, and chaos.

The Salafi understands:

Sincerity is not enough — you must be right as well.

Ibn Masʿūd (رضي الله عنه) said:

“How many intend good but never reach it.”
[Sunan al-Dārimī]

Today, many modern groups fall into the same Khārijī trap:

Worship without knowledge.

Action without Sunnah.

Emotion without restraint.

Don’t be deceived by appearances.

Follow the Sunnah — even if you’re alone.

That is the only path to safety.
