Who Are the Five Greatest Women in Islam — And Who Is the Best Among Them All?
The best women are: Khadījah, ʿĀ’ishah, Fāṭimah the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, Āsiyah, the wife of Pharaoh, and Maryam, the daughter of ʿImrān. These five are the best women.
People have differed over who among them is superior to the others, but the strongest view is that ʿĀ’ishah is the most superior, due to the statement of the Prophet ﷺ:
“The superiority of ʿĀ’ishah over all other women is like the superiority of tharīd (a meat and bread dish) over all other foods.”
May Allah be pleased with all of them.
So, the best women are five:
Khadījah,
ʿĀ’ishah,
Āsiyah bint Muzāḥim, the wife of Pharaoh,
Maryam bint ʿImrān, the mother of ʿĪsā,
Fāṭimah, the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ.
These five are the best women, and the best of them all—without exception—is ʿĀ’ishah.
Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn (entry no. 125, under the ḥadīth: “ʿĀ’ishah said: I never felt jealous...”)
