Why the Khawarij Were Declared “Dogs of the Hellfire” by the Prophet ﷺ
The Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ didn’t use harsh words except when the danger was immense.
He said about the Khawārij:
“They are the dogs of the Hellfire.”
[Sunan Ibn Mājah 173 | Authentic]
Let that sink in.
These were people:
— Who prayed excessively.
— Who fasted beyond the norm.
— Who recited Qur’an beautifully.
Yet the Prophet ﷺ said:
“They will recite the Qur’an, but it will not go beyond their throats.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim]
Why?
Because their actions were hollow — not based on understanding, mercy, or submission to the Sunnah.
— They rebelled against rulers.
— Declared Muslims as disbelievers for major sins.
— Shed blood in the name of “purity.”
— Caused destruction wherever they rose.
They dressed their evil in religious disguise.
The Salaf warned against them.
Called them people of misguidance.
Warned they’re more dangerous than the disbelievers.
O Muslim, don’t be deceived by their slogans:
— “We want ḥudūd!”
— “We want Shariah!”
— “We want justice!”
Because what they really want…
Is power, chaos, and blood.
The Prophet ﷺ warned us, so we must warn others.
