Why the Prophet ﷺ Warned So Harshly Against Extremists in Religion
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Beware of exaggeration in religion. For those before you were destroyed because of exaggeration in religion.”
[Sunan an-Nasā’ī, 3057 | Authentic]
This isn’t just a general warning.
It is a prophetic refutation of every extremist ideology — especially the Khawārij, who exaggerated, went beyond bounds, and declared Muslims disbelievers over sins.
They prayed more.
They fasted more.
They recited Qur’an more.
But the Prophet ﷺ said they will leave Islam like an arrow leaves the bow.
(Saḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim)
So why such a harsh warning from the Messenger of Mercy ﷺ?
Because extremism doesn’t just harm individuals — it tears the Ummah apart:
— It leads to bloodshed in the name of piety.
— It destroys unity in the name of "pure belief."
— It rejects mercy, overlooks repentance, and declares takfīr based on assumption.
The Salafi path is balanced:
— Between fear and hope.
— Between mercy and justice.
— Between preserving the religion and preserving lives.
O seeker of truth, beware of the extremism of the Khawārij.
Stick to the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions.
