Islam Does Not Forbid Beauty—It Forbids Arrogance
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“He will not enter Paradise who has even a mustard seed’s weight of pride in his heart.”
A man asked, “What if a man likes his clothes to look good and his shoes to look good?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“Indeed, Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. Pride is rejecting the truth and looking down on people.”
(Saḥīḥ Muslim, 131)
SubḥānAllāh! What a perfect balance our dīn teaches.
Islam does not prohibit dressing well, being clean, or having a good appearance. In fact, Allah loves beauty—in our character, words, and outward presentation. But the danger lies in the heart: when looking good becomes a means to belittle others, or to reject advice, or to feed the ego.
Dress well, but remain humble.
Seek beauty, but never seek superiority over others.
Accept the truth—even if it comes from someone you dislike.
The believer polishes the heart more than the shoes. May Allah make us beautiful inwardly and outwardly, and protect us from pride.
