Wearing a Taweez is NOT a Sunnah — It’s a Form of Shirk!

Wearing a Taweez is NOT a Sunnah — It’s a Form of Shirk!

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever wears an amulet (taweez, charm) has committed shirk.”
Musnad Ahmad: 16969

This is not a light matter. This is not a “difference of opinion.”

This is a clear, explicit, prophetic warning.

Whether it’s around your neck, tied to your baby, hidden in your car, or stitched into your clothes — a taweez is not a source of protection.

It is a gateway to shirk, superstition, and reliance on other than Allāh.

The Sahābah tore off amulets from the necks of children.

They knew what we’ve forgotten:

  • You don’t need strings and scrolls.

  • You need tawakkul.

  • You need Qur’ān and duʿāʾ — not stitched leather and mystery ink.

Many who wear taweez don’t even know what’s inside:

  • Unknown symbols

  • Magic squares

  • Names of jinn

  • Writings with no basis in Qur’ān or Sunnah

Ask yourself honestly:

  • Would the Prophet ﷺ ever wear such a thing?

  • Did the Sahābah walk around with charms?

If the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said it’s shirk — that’s the end of the discussion.

True protection comes from:

  • Āyah al-Kursī

  • Muʿawwidhāt (Sūrah al-Falaq & al-Nās)

  • Duʿāʾs from the Sunnah

  • Tawakkul on Allāh — not a piece of thread

Don’t let culture override creed. Don’t let emotions cancel evidence.

Cut it off. Burn it. Repent. Rely on Allāh alone.

May Allāh protect us from every form of shirk, open and hidden.
