Misusing Takfir: A Tool of Destruction, Not Correction
One of the most dangerous weapons in the hands of the Khawārij — past and present — is the misuse of takfīr.
Instead of being a judicial ruling by scholars based on clear-cut evidence and established conditions, it becomes in their hands a sword to strike down Muslims, divide the Ummah, and justify rebellion and murder.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“If a man says to his brother, 'O disbeliever (kāfir),' then it (i.e., the accusation) returns upon one of them.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, 6104; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 60]
This is not da'wah.
This is not rectification.
This is corruption in the name of piety.
The Khawārij make takfīr over major sins, assumptions, and political disagreements — then use it to justify bloodshed.
But the Salaf — the true inheritors of the Prophet (peace be upon him) — exercised extreme caution:
— They distinguished between sins and disbelief,
— They upheld the conditions and barriers of takfīr,
— And they always chose mercy and guidance over haste and blood.
Misusing takfīr doesn’t correct the Ummah. It destroys it.
O Muslim!
Follow the way of the Salaf.
Guard your tongue.
And beware of those who call to chaos in the name of "truth."
