The Liberal Lie of “Follow Your Emotions” — Exposed by Ibn al-Qayyim

Liberalism tells you:

“Feel everything.”

“Let your emotions lead you.”

“If you’re sad — stay sad. It’s your truth.”

But Islam teaches us something far deeper.

Imām Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“The most beloved thing to Shayṭān is that he causes the servant to be sad.”
(Madarij as-Salikeen, pg. 500–501)

Why?

Because sadness makes you spiritually numb.

It disconnects you from Qur’an.

It makes you doubt Allah.

It makes you give up on duʿāʾ.

It turns your heart inward — until you feel alone… even though Allah is closer than your jugular vein.

Liberalism worships emotions.

Islam disciplines them.

Liberalism says sadness is an identity.

Islam says sadness is a test — and Shayṭān loves when you fail it.

Allah said:

“Secret counsel is only from Shayṭān, to grieve the believers…”
[Surah al-Mujādilah, 58:10]

You think those whispers are your voice?

They’re not.

They are Shayṭān’s poison, wrapped in the language of your pain.

Islam doesn’t shame sadness.

But it also never glorifies it.

It gives you tools:

— Ṣalāh

— Duʿāʾ

— Dhikr

— Qur’an

— Tawakkul

— Gratitude

— Good company

These are not “coping mechanisms.”

They are weapons of light against the darkness Shayṭān wants you to drown in.

Don’t let liberalism fool you into romanticizing despair.

And don’t let Shayṭān win by keeping you sad.

Turn to Allah.

Get up.

Wipe your tears.

And walk back to the One who never left you.
