The Shield of the Night — Qiyam is Your Fortress Against Fitnah
Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said:
“The night prayer is from the means of protecting oneself from fitan (trials).”
Sharḥ Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 9/501
Ya Allāh… How many of us are drowning in trials — doubts, desires, distractions — while the lifeline of the night remains untouched?
You’re scrolling at 2AM.
But not praying.
You’re worrying about the state of the Ummah.
But not standing before your Rabb.
You fear the fitan of social media, politics, lust, and misguidance.
But you’ve left the night prayer — the very shield the Salaf clung to during times of confusion and chaos.
Qiyām al-Layl is not just extra credit — it is spiritual armor.
The Prophet ﷺ would rise until his feet swelled… in ease and in hardship.
The Salaf said: If not for the night prayer, we would have been destroyed by the fitan.
When your heart is heavy, your mind is lost, and the world is confusing — don’t just talk about it.
Rise. Make wudūʾ. Stand in silence.
Whisper to the One who never sleeps.
Let the night prayer wash away what the day corrupts.
May Allāh grant us a portion of the night that shields us from all harm.
