Dear Muslimah: Your Modesty Is Royalty — Even at Home

Shaykh al-ʿAllāmah Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān (ḥafiẓahullāh) said:

“It is not permissible for a woman to wear short clothing in front of her children and maḥārim (non-marriageable male relatives). She may only wear short clothing in front of her husband alone.”
[Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā, 3/170]

This is not strictness.

This is purity.

This is dignity.

This is our Islam.

In a time when society normalizes undressing — even inside the home — our dīn reminds us that ḥayāʾ (modesty) isn’t just something for the outside world. It starts within the walls of the home, before our own children, before our own brothers, even before our own fathers.

  • Casual tight clothes.

  • Short or sleeveless garments.

  • Relaxed dressing in front of maḥārim.

All of it goes against the pure guidelines of Islam.

But when a woman guards her modesty — even privately — she is preserving her soul. She becomes a living example of dignity and obedience to Allāh.

Sisters,

Don’t let culture override Qur’an.

Don’t let comfort override commandments.

Don’t let what is “normal” override what is noble.

Your ʿawrah is a trust.

Your modesty is a shield.

And your beauty? It’s for one man alone — your husband.

This is not about oppression.

This is about protecting your honour, your home, and your Hereafter.

A Reminder to the Muslim Woman
