Ruling on Appointing Someone to Perform Hajj on Behalf of Another Due to Inability

Question to Shaykh Ibn Baaz:

To the esteemed Shaykh ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Bāz — may Allāh preserve him —

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh. To proceed:

I am writing to you regarding a matter related to a will.

My grandmother instructed me in her will to perform Ḥajj on her behalf. However, as I am paralyzed due to a leg condition and my old age, and I am physically unable to perform Ḥajj, I have appointed a man named Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd to perform Ḥajj on my behalf. I covered the expenses of his Ḥajj and gave him 2,600 riyals for that purpose. Will this Ḥajj fulfill the obligation of the will? May Allāh bless you.

Shaykh Ibn Baz Answer:

Wa ʿalaykum as-salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh. To proceed:

If the situation is as you mentioned, then you have done well in what you did. The Ḥajj performed by the aforementioned Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd on behalf of your grandmother is acceptable, as long as he is trustworthy.

May Allāh grant everyone success in that which pleases Him.

Wa as-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh.
