The True Difference Between Rabbaniyin and Ahbar: Scholars of Worship vs Scholars of Knowledge
The Rabbānīyīn are the scholars who are also devout worshippers — those who combine knowledge with worship.
As for the Aḥbār, they are a category of scholars who are known primarily for their knowledge, but not particularly distinguished for their devotion in worship — as mentioned by Ibn Kathīr here.
Others have said: The Rabbānīyīn are those whose knowledge is expansive.
Some said: They are those who nurture people by teaching them the smaller matters of knowledge before the greater ones.
The Rabbānī is the one who possesses broad and deep knowledge.

“O Messenger, let them not grieve you — those who hasten into disbelief…”
