How the Khawarij Broke the Unity of the Muslims
The Ummah was united behind the Prophet (peace be upon him).
And after him, united behind the Rightly-Guided Caliphs.
But the first major crack in Muslim unity…
didn’t come from the Jews, the Christians, or the Mushrikīn.
It came from within.
It came from the Khawārij.
They split away from the Muslims during the caliphate of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him).
They called him a disbeliever.
They rebelled against him.
They fought and killed the very Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) — claiming they were "upholding Islām".
And with them began the fitnah of disunity, bloodshed, and chaos in the Ummah.
The Prophet Muḥammad (peace be upon him) described them:
“They will kill the people of Islām and leave the idol worshipers.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī]
The Khawārij did not build the Ummah — they tore it apart. (Walaa Baraa in the Hands of the Khawarij)
They were obsessed with takfīr, blind to knowledge, and arrogant in piety.
True unity is not with every loud voice claiming Islam.
True unity is upon the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf.
Today, unity will not come through revolutions, rebellions, or false zeal.
It will come by rejecting the ideology of the Khawārij — and returning to the balanced path of the Companions.
Expose the Khawārij.
Unite upon the truth.
